Claude Monet - Weizenfeld (1881)
Using a simple horizontal arrangement of landscape and sky, Claude Monet composed a pictorial space accentuated by groups of poplar trees. He executed the surfaces in nuanced brushwork. Subtle color gradations, differentiated internal structures, and the play of cirrus clouds infuse vitality into the static foundational concept. As is often the case with Monet, a path in the foreground guides the viewer's gaze.
