Alfred Sisley - Winter in Moret (1891)
Alfred Sisley repeatedly focused on the River Loing, which regularly overflowed its banks in winter. The mill on the right of the painting stands on a 14th-century bridge. Sisley chose a perspective that leaves out this picturesque motif. Bare poplar trees and snow, the muted blue of the water, and the diffuse light of the sky all convey the wintry atmosphere in subdued colors.
