Vincent van Gogh - Harvest at La Crau (1888)

 

During the late 19th century, the art world underwent profound changes, witnessing the emergence of various avant-garde movements. Vincent van Gogh, influenced by multiple artistic currents, fused elements of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Symbolism, Expressionism, and Fauvism in his work. This transformative period marked the birth of modern art, challenging traditional norms.

In Harvest at La Crau, one of his Arles countryside paintings, Van Gogh experimented with flat color areas and bold outlines. His distinctive brushstrokes, exemplified in the sharp cut cornfield against the standing corn, added texture and depth to the canvas. Despite their innovative approach, artists like Van Gogh faced resistance from the establishment as they paved the way for the new era of art.
