Vincent van Gogh - The Banks of Seine (1887)
In the
summer 1887 van Gogh often worked on the banks of Seine at Asniéres. The Bank
of Seine is a painting out of a group of artworks called Seine. The works were
painted outside but close to Paris. The Seine has been an integral part of the
Parisian life for commerce, travel and entertainment for centuries. Van Gogh
preferred the countryside and periphery to the city, so he enjoyed painting
out-doors in the summer. He created small studies that were easy to carry, like
this one.
