Peder Mørk Mønsted – Going to Market - 1911

Peder Mørk was born in Copenhagen in 1873, the son of a Danish painter. He studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1897 to 1899, where he won a gold medal for architecture. During his studies he worked as a copying master and decorated the interiors of Frederik's Church ceiling and some decorative details. From 1900 to 1902 he travelled to Italy and France, where he undertook further study from artists including Vassilios Kirmis, Carle Van Loo and Jean Marie Heilbut. In 1904 Peder Mørk was accepted into the Konstakademien (Art Academy) in Stockholm. There he continued his studies with Karl Larsson, completing his education in 1906 by then based in Copenhagen. Throughout his life Peder Mørk would be drawn towards portraiture but also had many other subjects such as flowers and still-life paintings. There are no known works by Peder Mørk after 1912 when heading to London where he opened an art school before travelling back to Copenhagen three years later having married Katinka Sibbe Rodeja who passed away in 1921 after giving birth to their son Henrik who died shortly after just before Peder Mø
