Eugenio Lucas Velázquez born in Havana on 23rd May, 1863. Painter and draftsman of Spanish descent. His approach to painting has its roots in traditional academic training and can be seen in his use of realistic technique to depict social realism at a time when this kind of art was still new to Cuba.
